Roads that we drove
Stretched out ahead toward the place we would rest and call our new home
The car stalled a little too far
So we got out and walked seven miles or more in the dark
And that silver dollar streetlight
Gave us passage through the trees
We followed as though it would lead us to mutual peace
But the distance was great
And we had no idea it could pull us apart
The moments we shared skip like stones on the blood in our hearts
Those were our sacred nights
Our memories together outlast the sparkle in our eyes
Even though we said goodbye
We can never leave each other for the rest of our lives
On our sacred nights
We arrived in spite of our needs
Stars laid like pearls scattered out on a black velvet sheet
Then we bathed in the wakes
Of subzero waters that barely could cover our legs
Standing warmth to warmth
In the middle of a stream we were surrounded
A golden spray of fireflies danced around in chorus
They glowed as they floated
Flashing life into the silence
They shimmered like stardust released from on high celebrating the joy between us
Those were our sacred nights
Our memories together outlast the sparkle in our eyes
Even though we said goodbye
We can never leave each other for the rest of our lives
We will always have each other in the corner of our minds
Its hard to understand importance at the time
Just know I wont forget you
You've become too much of mine
If ever I get lonely Ill remember you
By my side
On our sacred nights
On our sacred nights
On our sacred nights
Our sacred nights
